Fitness Myths: Strength Training with Weights will make me Bulky

Many people avoid weight training because somewhere along the way they heard that it will make their muscles big. This is simply a matter of misinformation. Strength training is a critical element to create muscle tone and burn fat and should not be left out of your well rounded routine.

Light to moderate weights with between 12-20 repetitions are most effective for toning lean muscle mass. Building large muscles takes a great deal of discipline and a very strict regimen of heavier weights. Body builders work for years to get the muscle mass that they exhibit.

Stick to the moderate weights, enough to challenge your muscles at the higher reps and your muscles will be sleek and toned without any bulk.

kidscampwebiconThe Studio's Boot Camp for Kids is designed by Top Personal Trainers & Nutritionist Herb Dizon and Colleen Ballew to challenge kids physically and mentally. Our camps use highly efficient, total-body muscle-strengthening routines and vary each day. We utilze bodyweight training, agility ladders, resistance band, medicine balls, sports and agility drills to keep children fit and healthy.  Workouts are fun and challenging and each session is peppered with Nutritional education and tips.

The problem of childhood obesity in the United States has grown considerably in recent years. Between 16 and 33 percent of children and adolescents are obese. Obesity is among the easiest medical conditions to recognize but most difficult to treat. Unhealthy weight gain due to poor diet and lack of exercise is responsible for over 300,000 deaths each year. The annual cost to society for obesity is estimated at nearly $100 billion. Overweight children are much more likely to become overweight adults unless they adopt and maintain healthier patterns of eating and exercise.
